What the Kitchener facility does
The Kitchener facility is one of three Sentrimax facilities in North America, alongside
Mansfield, Texas and Edmonton, Alberta. It performs the same scope of work as the other two shops:
decanter, tricanter and disc stack centrifuge repair from 8″ to 43″ bowl diameter, engineering and
machine shop services, gearbox repair, three-plane balancing to ISO G 0.5, welding and
fabrication, and PLC/HMI/VFD controls work. It is a working repair shop rather than a satellite
sales office.
Southern Ontario’s industrial base is weighted toward manufacturing, alongside a dense network
of municipal water and wastewater treatment plants, and the centrifuges that typically arrive in
Kitchener reflect that mix: sludge dewatering and biosolids equipment from municipal operations,
and process centrifuges tied to manufacturing. The facility also receives equipment from any of
the other industries Sentrimax serves, including food and beverage, chemicals and environmental
services, regardless of whether it fits that regional pattern.
Industries this facility sees most often
Manufacturing customers across Southern Ontario bring process centrifuges tied to general
production lines, while food and beverage operations bring equipment tied to dairy product
separation, meat and fish processing, and brewery or alcohol production. Municipal customers bring
sludge dewatering and biosolid management equipment tied to water and wastewater treatment.
Pulp and paper and recycling operations in the region add another layer of demand. None of this
rules out other industries: chemicals, environmental services and general manufacturing equipment
all come through the same shop using the same process.
Getting equipment to Kitchener
Centrifuges reach the Kitchener facility by truck freight, arranged through Sentrimax’s
dedicated broker network for this class of rotating equipment. That network manages flatbed or
specialized freight from anywhere in Ontario or Eastern Canada, and handles cross-border logistics
for equipment shipped in from the United States, so a plant does not need to source that capacity
itself. On arrival, the unit is documented and ID-tagged before inspection starts, and that tag
follows the job through quotation, repair and return shipping.
Shipping the whole machine is not always necessary. Field service technicians can handle
diagnostic work, alignment checks and some mechanical troubleshooting on site, and remote services
can often resolve controls issues, such as a VFD fault or an HMI programming problem, without a
technician traveling to the plant at all.
One of three facilities, not a stand-alone shop
Kitchener does not necessarily perform every repair that originates in Ontario or Eastern
Canada. It is one of three Sentrimax facilities, and work is routed to whichever shop suits the
machine and the current schedule, whether that turns out to be Kitchener,
the Mansfield, Texas facility, or
the Edmonton, Alberta facility. Contacting the
Kitchener number starts the same triage process regardless of which shop ultimately performs the
work. For the fuller picture of how coverage and routing work across all three locations, see
Sentrimax’s centrifuge service areas overview.
The repair process, start to finish
- Inspection and quote. The unit is documented and ID-tagged, oil samples are
sent out for third-party analysis, and the rotating assembly is disassembled, steam-cleaned and
polished at critical surfaces. A licensed technician completes a 75-point inspection and measures
all critical precision fits, then Sentrimax prepares a quotation package covering the inspection
report, scope of work, required parts, photographs and pricing. - Repair. Once approved, parts are assembled to meet or exceed OEM
specifications, required welding is completed, and machined parts are brought to OEM tolerances.
The rotating assembly is then balanced to ISO G 0.5, reassembled, and inspected again before a
full test run with a performance report. - Delivery. The repaired unit ships back through the same dedicated broker
network, with an invoice itemizing parts, labor and any analyses performed, along with shipping
confirmation and tracking.
Decanter and tricanter work specifically
A significant portion of Kitchener’s workload is decanter and tricanter centrifuge repair tied
to manufacturing and municipal applications: rotating assembly rebuilds, gearbox repair, and the
machining and balancing needed to bring a worn or damaged unit back within OEM tolerances. For
more detail on that work independent of location, see
Sentrimax’s decanter centrifuge repair page.
Machine shop, gearbox and controls capability on site
Beyond centrifuge teardown and reassembly, the Kitchener facility does the machine shop work a
repair depends on: milling, lathe-turning and precision grinding, plus design of new or
reverse-engineered parts when an OEM part is no longer available. Gearbox work covers planetary
(2- and 3-stage) and CYCLO gearboxes and hydraulic backdrives. Controls capability covers PLC and
HMI programming, VFD troubleshooting and replacement, and brake system integration, including
ETL-certified control panel and automation support. Mobilization work, such as trailer or skid
mounting and custom Sea-Can or CONEX container layouts, is also available for units that need to
be deployed in the field rather than run in a fixed installation.
Deciding between a shop visit and a field visit
| Type of work | Usually handled |
|---|---|
| Full teardown, rebuild and precision machining | At the facility |
| Balancing to ISO G 0.5 | At the facility |
| Alignment checks and general mechanical troubleshooting | Field visit |
| PLC, HMI or VFD faults | Remote service, or a field visit if hands-on access is needed |
| Vibration or performance diagnosis | Field visit, followed by a shop visit if teardown is warranted |
This is a general guide rather than a fixed rule. The right call depends on the specific
machine, the suspected cause, and what the plant’s own maintenance team has already checked.
Rentals and equipment during a repair
Where downtime on a specific unit cannot be absorbed while a repair or overhaul is underway,
Sentrimax offers rental centrifuges to keep an operation running in the meantime, alongside full
overhaul, equipment and parts sales for customers replacing rather than repairing. Availability
depends on current demand and equipment type; the fastest way to check is to describe the
application when requesting a quote.
What’s in the quotation package
Before any repair work begins, Sentrimax issues a written quotation package rather than a
verbal estimate. It includes the full inspection report from the 75-point inspection, the
proposed scope of work, a list of required parts, annotated photographs taken during teardown,
and pricing with an estimated delivery time. That package is what gets approved before repair
work starts, so nothing is machined, welded or balanced on a customer’s machine without sign-off
on the scope first.
Quality control and the test run before shipping
Once repair work is complete and the unit is reassembled, a technician completes a detailed
post-repair quality control inspection before the machine goes anywhere. That is followed by a
full test run, which produces a performance report the customer receives along with the finished
unit. The test run and its report are part of the standard process, not an optional add-on
requested separately.
Why the process doesn’t change by facility
Sentrimax maintains ISO 9001:2015 certification, and the three-stage process, inspection and
quote, repair, and delivery, is documented under that certification rather than built informally
at each shop. That is the practical reason a job can move between facilities without the customer
noticing a difference in how it is handled: the inspection standard, the balancing specification
and the quotation format are the same wherever the machine ends up being repaired.
Language support and independence
Sentrimax has English, French and Spanish-speaking representatives available, which matters for
a company operating across both the United States and Canada. Sentrimax is also an independent
MRO provider, not a manufacturer subsidiary or authorized dealer. It services equipment from
Sharples, Flottweg, Centrisys, Derrick, GEA, Alfa Laval, Tomoe, Andritz, Bird, Pieralisi and other
brands without being authorized, approved or partnered by any of them, which is also why a
customer isn’t limited to a single manufacturer’s network when deciding where to send a machine.
What to have ready before you contact this facility
- Nameplate details: manufacturer, model and bowl diameter
- A description of the fault or the reason the machine is being sent in
- Whether the plant believes this needs a full shop repair or could be handled with a field visit
- Any oil samples, vibration readings or inspection notes already on hand
Scheduling a pickup
Once a job is ready to ship, whether inbound for inspection or outbound after repair,
Sentrimax’s dedicated broker network arranges the pickup. For shipments crossing between the
United States and Canada, the receiving facility confirms the necessary paperwork in advance so
the shipment isn’t held up at the border. Customers do not need a separate freight account or
carrier relationship of their own; that coordination is handled as part of working with Sentrimax
directly, in both directions.
Contacting the Kitchener facility
The Kitchener facility can be reached directly at 877-741-0118, or through the general
Sentrimax contact form. Both routes lead to the same triage process, whether the eventual repair
happens in Kitchener or is routed to one of the other two facilities.
Request service from this facility
Whether the job is a full inspection and rebuild, a field visit, or a controls issue that might
be resolved remotely, the Kitchener facility is a starting point for equipment based anywhere in
Southern Ontario or Eastern Canada.
Frequently asked questions
What kind of centrifuges does the Kitchener facility work on?
Decanter, tricanter and disc stack centrifuges from 8" to 43" bowl diameter, along with the gearboxes, controls and mobilized (skid or trailer mounted) equipment that comes with them, across the major brands used in the industry.
Does the Kitchener facility only serve southern Ontario?
It typically supports Southern Ontario and Eastern Canada, but it is one of three Sentrimax facilities, so equipment from that region can also be routed to Mansfield, Texas or Edmonton, Alberta depending on freight routing and shop loading.
How does a centrifuge get shipped to Kitchener?
By truck freight, arranged through Sentrimax's dedicated broker network for large rotating equipment. That network also handles cross-border logistics for equipment shipped in from the United States.
Can a technician visit my plant instead of shipping the machine?
For diagnostic work, alignment checks and some controls troubleshooting, yes. Field service technicians and remote services are available for jobs that do not require a full shop teardown.
Will my centrifuge be repaired in Kitchener if I call that number?
Not necessarily. Kitchener is one of three Sentrimax facilities, and the job may be routed to whichever shop suits the machine and schedule best. Calling Kitchener starts the process rather than fixing where the repair happens.
What happens before Sentrimax gives me a price?
A licensed technician completes a 75-point inspection, oil samples are sent for third-party analysis, and critical fits are measured. Only after that does Sentrimax issue an itemized quotation package with the scope of work, required parts, photographs and pricing.
