Position Description: Millwright (CAN) & Mechanic (US)
Reports to: Shop Foreman or Shop Manager (as applicable)
PRIMARY FUNCTION:
Under the direction of Supervision, the Millwright / Mechanic engages in centrifuge repair and restoration with engineering supplied blue prints to meet the production goals in accordance with company policies and procedures.
Requires an individual with a high degree of experience and who is very quality-minded. Work is varied and custom.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- The Industrial Millwright / Mechanic is responsible for installing, assembling, dismantling, and cleaning machinery, conveyor systems, pulleys, mechanical clutches, gear boxes, hydraulic and pneumatic control systems.
- Transport and locate machines and equipment to the desired location as directed using fork lifts, hoists, winches, cranes and other equipment.
- Disassemble & assemble machines or equipment from their component parts.
- The Millwright must understand how a machine functions to assemble and disassemble it properly; this may involve knowledge of electronics, pneumatics, and computer systems.
- The Millwright will use complex instruction books that detail the assembly of the machinery and use tools such as levels, welding machines, and torque wrenches.
- The Millwright uses micrometers and other precision measuring devices to achieve the extreme tolerances required and determine appropriate fits for bearings and seals.
- On large projects, the use of cranes is common.
- Other items deemed necessary by management.
- Understand and operate within the procedures and guidelines for QMS.
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:
- High School Diploma or equivalent (GED)
- A documented and verified U.S. Department of Labor Completion of Apprenticeship Certificate as a Millwright , or Four (4) years of documented experience as a Millwright/Industrial mechanic
- Ability, with or without reasonable accommodation, to work any shift and work overtime, including daily, weekends and holidays as required
- Basic knowledge of mathematics, algebra and physics
- Ability to work from layout plans, blueprints, drawings or other specifications to determine work procedures
- Ability and knowledge to dismantle machines, using hammers, wrenches, crowbars and other hand tools
- Ability and knowledge in welding including arc, acetylene and hydrogen
- Ability to properly move machinery and equipment, using hoists, dollies, rollers and trucks
- Ability and knowledge to properly use tools and equipment such as drill presses, power saws, chain falls, jacks, skids, slings, burning torches, and other types of portable and hand tools
- Ability to clean, lubricate, or adjust parts, equipment, or machinery
- Perform incidental tasks as required to complete the larger task
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Ability to provide mechanical support to locate and diagnose trouble in mechanical systems or equipment
- Ability to complete required preventive maintenance at defined intervals on all mechanical equipment
- Ability to perform tasks historically assigned to other mechanical classifications (i.e., Pipefitter, Machine Repair)
- Perform other duties as required to meet the needs of the Company
- Must have own tools
- Centrifuge experience is an asset
- Journey-level skill and knowledge as a Millwright/Industrial mechanic.
MARGINAL DUTIES:
Operate overhead crane, miscellaneous types of cranes and forklift.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:
- High school diploma or equivalent education.
- Demonstrated mechanical ability.
- Four or more years industrial mechanical experience, preferably in a machine shop.
- Communication skills with supervisor, engineer, and peers.
- Shop Safety knowledge.
LANGUAGE SKILLS:
- Blueprint reading and comprehension.
- Ability to read and comprehend Production Packets in English.
- Ability to effectively communicate in English with Engineering Department and other employees to share information and solve problems.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:
- Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals as required on the blue prints and engineering notes.
REASONING ABILITY:
- Able to understand and carry out instructions furnished in written and oral form. Able to comprehend blue prints.
